Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they signify for your website?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that can be accessed only when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people could see its content. This feature may be used for the primary folder of a particular site or only for a specific subfolder based on the needs you have. For instance, when you are creating a new site and you don't want people to see it before it is ready, you need to prohibit the access to it completely, and if you want only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you'll be able to password-protect only a particular folder, while the remainder of the website may be seen by anyone. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear in the event that the login details the visitor types in aren't right. Even a direct link to a file won't work if any folder above it is password-protected.
