A subdomain is a website address, that is under a main, or a root domain. An example is something.domain.com, in which domain.com is the main domain, while "something" is the subdomain below it. Each subdomain can have its own site and records i.e. aside from using the domain name as part of the whole web address, a subdomain can be totally independent and even hosted by a different provider. Using a subdomain can be extremely practical if you want to have different sites that are related in some way. For instance, you can have a web-based store under the main domain along with a forum under a subdomain in order to provide means for your clients to ask questions or share views about your products. The advantage of using a subdomain rather than a subfolder is that the web sites are going to be separated, so you're able to update one of them or perform maintenance without affecting the other.

Subdomains in Web Hosting

Our web hosting plans will enable you to set up many subdomains for any domain hosted within your account without any hassle. If the main domain name is added, it requires two mouse clicks to set up a subdomain and select what folder it'll open (if different from the default one), create customized error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions, set a shared IP address or a dedicated one, and a lot more. All subdomains will be conveniently listed in alphabetical order under their main domain for quick access and administration. By right-clicking on any one of them and by using instant access buttons you can view the error logs, visitor statistics or site files for that particular subdomain. We have not set a limit for the total number of subdomains you can create with any of our plans, so you can have as many as you need.
