The .SE country-specific domain name extension was established in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domains were bought. Individuals were allowed to grab no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. only Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to obtain a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

Today, anybody can grab a dot SE domain, which gives you the opportunity to reach the Swedish online community even if you do not have a local presence.
